Police in York Region are reminding pedestrians and motorist to be mindful of their surroundings following the end of daylight savings time.

York Regional Police have set up a safety event at Alexander Muir Public School in Newmarket from 7:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Monday.

The objective of the campaign is to educate motorists, students, parents, and teachers of pedestrian safety in school zones, especially during school hours.

Police are reminding pedestrians to look both ways before crossing a roadway and motorists must always be prepared to stop when approaching crosswalks.

Drivers are being told to avoid speeding in residential areas and to be defensive and courteous on the roads.
