Veterans can take public transit for free this Remembrance Day.
GO Transit and York Region Transit will pay tribute to the men and women who served to protect Canada by offering war veterans and a companion free, all-day travel on all services.
This is an annual event for both services.
Veterans are asked to identify themselves Nov. 11 by wearing their medals, berets, blazers, uniforms or similar belongings while travelling.
Immediate family members of deceased veterans may also ride free that day if carrying something to identify their relation to the veteran, such as service papers or an identification card.
At 11 a.m. Remembrance Day, YRT/Viva and Mobility Plus services will pull over to the curb to observe two minutes of silence and reflect on the sacrifices made by Canadians for peace.
