Vaughan has plenty to boast about when it comes to family friendly attractions

After all, it’s home to the country’s largest amusement park - Canada’s Wonderland - and the country’s first Legoland Discovery Centre.

Then there’s Kleinburg’s McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the Kortright Centre and the slithery excitement of Reptilia.

And now with Sky Zone opening a 36,500-square-foot facility at 2839 Rutherford Rd. earlier this week, the city can lay claim to Ontario’s biggest indoor trampoline park

“What I really hope is that this will be a real hub for the community,” said Caroline Irving, franchise owner and a mother of five. “It’s really important to get kids off the couch to exercise, sweat and have a good time. Jumping on a trampoline is really joyful. It just makes you feel like a kid again, if you’re a grown up, and if you’re a kid, you don’t even know you’re exercising so it’s that wonderful combination.”

Sky Zone, founded in the United States and now with more than 60 locations worldwide, is billed as the world’s first all-trampoline, walled playing court.

The Vaughan trampoline park is the third one Irving has opened in the GTA following the Canadian launch of her Mississauga location in 2011 and Toronto location last year.

The local Sky Zone features a huge Open Jump court comprised of 58 interconnected trampolines; three Ultimate Dodgeball courts; a three lane SkySlam Basketball court where you can channel your inner Michael Jordan; an Ultimate Volleyball court and a Foam Zone featuring a pit filled with cushy blocks that you can leap into from one of four lanes.

You can even take fitness classes, dubbed SkyRobics.

The facility also houses four party rooms and a spot where adults can go to relax without having to worry about keeping a watchful eye on their kids.

“Our parents lounge is probably the coolest feature that is completely different from the other two (GTA) parks,” general manager Domenic Buttiglieri said. “We’re going to have couches and two TVs in there, but more importantly it’s the view they can get without having to stand (right by the courts). It’s something our parents were screaming for in the other locations that we just didn’t have the capabilities of doing and now they have that here.”

Sky Zone is equipped to host corporate team-building events, dodgeball leagues, fundraisers, birthday parties and school field trips. To date, Irving’s other locations, combined, have attracted more than 700,000 visitors and she expects that success will continue with the new Vaughan location.

“I just find that wherever I’m at, people starting asking (me to open another location). This just made sense to me geographically and this is just a great market with all the families,” she said.

Philip Dodson visited on opening day and he was really impressed.

“I love it,” said the 12-year- old Vaughan resident. “Out of everything, I like the Sky Slam (best).”
