Eateries around York ticketed, closed for health issues

Public health inspectors handed out tickets for violations of the province’s Health Protection and Promotion Act at eight York Region establishments last week.
The following violations were reported:
- Country Style, 432 The Queensway S, Georgina, was cited for failing to provide soap or detergent in food preparation areas;
- Il Giardino Toscana Restaurant, 12926 Hwy. 27, King, was charged for failing to ensure equipment surfaces were sanitized as necessary;
- Jacx Restaurant Bar and Grill, 20215 Woodbine Ave. E., Gwillimbury, was written up after inspectors discovered that mechanical equipment was not maintained to provide a sufficient chemical solution rinse;
- New Wok New Wok, 1 Bass Pro Mills Dr., Vaughan, was ticketed for failing to protect food from contamination or adulteration;
- The Pickle Barrel, 1 Bass Pro Mills Dr., Vaughan, was cited after inspectors found that the operator failed to ensure the floor of a food-handling room was kept clean;
- Sukiyaki, 1 Bass Pro Mills Dr., Vaughan, received a ticket for failing to protect food from contamination or adulteration;
- Yung Kee BBQ Restaurant, 4350 Steeles Ave. E., Markham, was charged with numerous offences. The offences include, offering the sale of hazardous foods at internal temperature between 4 C and 60 C, failing to ensure the wall of a food-handling room was kept clean, failing to protect food from contamination or adulteration, using food preparation equipment not of readily cleanable form and not in good repair. The establishment was also cited for having meat on the premise that was not labeled.
Inspectors also reported one closure at Japanese Express, 4300 Steeles Ave. E., Markham. The facility was closed for health hazards on Oct. 22 and was reopened Oct 23.
