Councillors will hold a special meeting Monday afternoon to learn about the town’s initial response and clean-up efforts following the Dec. 21 ice storm.
The meeting, which will include a presentation by staff, will follow a conference call planned for this afternoon (Thursday) between the chief administrative officers in York Region to discuss application for disaster relief from the province.
Power was fully restored in Richmond Hill by Monday Dec. 30, but clean-up efforts continue with priority being placed on imminent potential hazards.
Work is focusing on removing downed trees from public property and providing clear access to roads and sidewalks.
Waste collection limits are temporarily lifted until tomorrow (Friday), enabling Richmond Hill’s waste contractor to pick up as much as possible including garbage, recycling and organics.
Residents are advised to place spoiled food in green bins or clear, plastic bags for pickup.
Small branches that have fallen on private property can be placed at the curb for pickup Monday, Jan. 20, the same day as the second and final Christmas tree pickup.
Branches should be no longer than 1.2 m in length and no larger than 10 cm in diameter, and should be tied with twine in bundles less than 18 kg.
Larger branches can be brought to the curb (with cut edges towards the road) and the town will remove and/or chip when possible. More information on cleanup efforts can be found at RichmondHill.ca
