The Vaughan/King City Relay for Life organizers hope to surpass the success of their inaugural efforts in 2013 when they hold their follow-up relay later this year.

They will kick off their launch party next month with what is sure to be an inspirational event at T2 restaurant and lounge Feb. 27.

Last year’s first-time relay in Vaughan/King raised more than $85,000 for support programs and cancer research as 35 teams and 30 survivors took to the Woodbridge Fairgrounds for the 12-hour overnight event. It drew 450 people.

This year, they’ll be taking the field at Ignacy Jan Paderewski Park, off Hwy. 27 and south of Major Mackenzie in Vaughan Friday, June 20 through dawn Saturday, June 21.

Co-chairperson of the 2014 Vaughan Relay for Life, Vicky Wilson-Sher, was on hand recently to present a certificate and commemorative book to luminary sponsor Royal LePage Your Community Realty, who had Vivian Risi, broker of record and Ida Vivacqua, realtor, there to receive the book and certificate.

The kickoff is a chance to learn more about the relay, hear survivors tell their stores, pick up sponsorship forms, get teams organized and get fired up.

It takes place at T2 Restaurant and Lounge, 177 Whitmore Rd., Woodbridge, just off Hwy. 7 and Weston Road, and runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27.
