New Hope United Church

Winterfest
The City of Vaughan’s 25th annual WinterFest will be held on Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Vellore Village Community Centre, located at 1 Villa Royale Avenue.

This fun-filled event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and feature free outdoor and indoor activities including outdoor stage entertainment, a midway zone and much more.  Great food will also be available for purchase.

City of Vaughan invites public engagement in budget process
The City of Vaughan is offering a variety of opportunities for the public to become informed and engaged in the 2014 Budget and 2015-2017 Plan process.

Here are some of the ways to get informed and participate in the process:

• Attend public meetings on Wednesday, Jan. 15 (7 to 10 p.m.), Monday, Jan. 20 (9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.) and Wednesday, Jan. 29 (9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.).
• Join the conversation on the City’s Twitter (twitter.com/city_of_vaughan) and Facebook (facebook.com/thecityofvaughan) pages using the hashtag #vaughanbudget2014. The City will also be live tweeting from some of the public meetings
• Watch educational videos on the City’s YouTube page (youtube.com/thecityofvaughan). Video topics will include how to get involved and how tax dollars are allocated
• Learn about the budget on the City’s website at vaughan.ca/budget and participate in an online budget feedback survey
• Follow the City’s blog (vaughancityblog.ca) and eNewsletter for updates
• Participate in an “Ask the Expert” feature on Facebook to get questions answered in real time
• Email any questions or comments to the City at budgeting@vaughan.ca
The public meetings will be held at Vaughan City Hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr. There also will be a Special Council Meeting before the budget is approved to provide the public with a final opportunity to comment on the proposed 2014 budget and 2015-2017 plan. It is anticipated this meeting will be in late January or early February.

Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous
Are you having trouble controlling the way you eat? You are not alone. Today, there is a solution.

Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous holds weekly meetings every Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Woodbridge Pool and Memorial Arena, located at 5020 Highway 7 at the north west corner of Highway 7 and Islington Avenue.

There are no dues, no fees and no weigh-ins.

French Toastmasters
French Toastmasters club in Richmond Hill for fluent French speaking people. Meetings are on first and third Thursdays of the month, from 7:30 to 9 p.m..

• Teens group: Healthy Coping Skills presented by Eating Disorders of York Region’s Riverwalk Wellness Centres. will take place for six Tuesdays, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 901 Rutherford Road in Vaughan (main intersection is Bathurst and Rutherford).  The cost is $120 (total for six 1.5 hour groups).
