A city north of Toronto is banning the sale of puppies and kittens at pet shops.
Vaughan's bylaws will be amended to restrict the sale of pets unless they are from an animal shelter or rescue organization.
Vaughan city council members voted for the change on Tuesday following an online petition started by 24-year-old Kasey Dunn.
Toronto banned the sale of cats and dogs in pet shops in 2011, but the businesses are still legal in many areas of the G-T-A.
