Premier Kathleen Wynne is coming to Thornhill Monday to help the Liberal candidate in the upcoming provincial byelection.

According to a media advisory sent by Liberal candidate Sandra Yeung Racco's campaign team, Premier Wynne will meet volunteers and make brief remarks at the candidate's campaign office at 11 Disera Dr. at 12:30 p.m.

Over the lunch hour, the premier and the candidate will be at Promenade Mall's T&T grocery store to speak to local residents about the Liberal Party's plans to fix gridlock, invest in jobs and strengthen pensions.

At 3 p.m. Ms Wynne and Ms Yeung Racco will meet with local Filipino community leaders back at the campaign office followed by a meeting with MPP Reza Moridi and local Iranian Canadian community members at the Zeytoon Restaurant on Yonge St. just after 3:30 p.m.

At 4:30 p.m., Ms Yeung Racco, Premier Wynne and Mr. Moridi will speak to local residents about the Liberals' plans at Seven Pharmacy on Yonge Street.

Ms Yeung Racco is in what is expected to be a tight race against Conservative candidate Gila Martow, who was nominated last week. Also in the race is the New Democratic Party's Cindy Hackelberg, whose nomination was confirmed Sunday.

The byelection takes place Feb. 13 to replace Conservative MPP Peter Shurman who recently announced his retirement.

The former PC finance critic was embroiled in an expenses dispute and was demoted from his role after declaring a home he purchased in the Niagara district as his principle residence while claiming expenses for maintaining a residence in Toronto.
