The City of Saskatoon will ask the province to regulate Uber in Saskatchewan cities.

Uber is a ridesharing program that connects customers to drivers who charge for the ride they offer. Uber co-ordinates the payments.

In the summer, the standing policy committee on transportation looked at whether Uber and similar rideshare companies should be allowed to operate in the city.

Monday, council carried a motion to approach the province to regulate the industry and coordinate with other urban centres in the province.

Currently, SGI requires ride-share companies to have a Class PT plate. In order to get that plate, you need to have a taxi licence and SGI has no exemption for ride-share companies, but the agency and the province are discussing regulations.
