You can stroll along a Thornhill garden path and mingle with artists as you gaze at their creations. Take your children to have their faces painted, create a clay sculpture, or enjoy a Spiderman or a Cinderella show.

The 39th annual Thornhill Village Festival this Saturday, Sept. 19, will feature more than 100 community or vendor booths, as well as battle re-enactments, musical entertainment, a beer garden and a variety of food. Booths will feature jewellery, paintings, bags, decor items, accessories and ceramics.

Here are some of the other highlights you can expect at the festival:

MITCH MARKOWITZ

The festival will feature a guest appearance by Thornhill’s own Mitch Markowitz. He was co-producer and cast member of the TV show Hilarious House of Frankenstein and is a collector extraordinaire. He will have with him an unusual classic French car, a 1971 Citroen D. Check the festival’s website and Facebook pages for more information.

CHILDREN'S AREAS

There are two children’s areas near the Robert West Heritage House garden (northwest corner of Yonge and Centre streets). The festival committee has arranged for a climbing wall and other fun activities, such as a blow-up castle in the parking lot just north of the former Mac’s Milk store and just to the south of the Robert West Heritage House.

In the garden of the heritage house (7780 Yonge St.) is the activity area sponsored and run by Inventive Minds Kidz Academy (a private preschool, camp and drop-in program).

Children can enjoy the 11 a.m. Spiderman or 3 p.m. Cinderella show. Children can also enjoy the heritage activity of butter making or hearing heritage stories during festival hours.

ARTISTS' WALK, BAKING CONTEST

There will be an Artists’ Walk on the property of 38 Colborne St. (at the corner of Colborne and Church Lane). Stroll the garden path and interact with York Region artists.

Also watch out for The Old Tyme Baking Contest. New to the festival, there are three categories: Breads and muffins; cakes; and pies and tarts. Entries should be brought to 15 Colborne St. between 8 and 9 a.m. festival day. Registration forms available.

The beer garden is on the Vaughan side of Yonge Street on the northwest corner of Yonge and Centre streets. Yonge, Centre and John streets will be open to traffic all day.

The festival is presented by the Society for the Preservation of Historic Thornhill and is run by a volunteer community committee. The Thornhill Liberal is the media sponsor.
