York Regional Police officers issued more than 1,200 tickets to drivers as part of a back-to-school traffic enforcement blitz.

Police charged an Aurora man, 45, with stunt driving after a vehicle was caught travelling 122 kilometres per hour in a 60 km/h zone near a school zone close to the intersection of Bathurst Street and Keith Avenue in Newmarket.

The man's vehicle was impounded for seven days and his driver's licence was suspended.

The blitz, known as Operation ABC, also saw police issue tickets for speeding, not wearing a seat-belt, distracted driving and failing to stop for stop signs.

The focus of this year's campaign is distracted driving.

York Regional Police urges you to obey school zone speed limits, crossing guards and laws surrounding school buses and watch for children who may not be paying attention on and around roads.
