Vaughan townhouses settled

NRU
Sept. 16, 2015

In an August 26 decision, board member Blair Taylor approved a settlement between John Duca, the City of Vaughan and York Region for official plan and zoning by-law amendments and a site plan application for Duca’s property at 5289 and 5309 Highway 7. The official plan and zoning bylaw amendments had been previously approved in principle to permit six stacked townhouses with 180 units. Final approval had been withheld to enable the parties to finalize a site plan concept and develop a more detailed zoning by-law to implement the plan.

The board heard evidence from planner Ryan Mino-Leahan (KLM Planning Partners) and architect Kregg Fordyce (KFA Architects and Planners) on behalf of Duca and in support of the settlement. Mino-Leahan and Fordyce said that revisions had been made to the site plan to include a reduction in the number of units and floor space index and the provision of a semi-detached built form along Coles Avenue. They testified that the applications before the board represent good planning and should be approved.

The board agreed with the uncontested evidence provided by Mino-Leahan and Fordyce and approved the settlement.
