As kids went back to hitting the books last week, Peel and York police officers were hitting the roads to keep an eye on drivers in and around school zones during the first week of school.

Both police forces handed out hundreds of traffic tickets during their blitzes. Here’s a quick look at some of the numbers:

1,200+ - the number of traffic tickets York police gave out last week

112 - the number of charges Peel police laid for speeding/aggressive driving

122 - the speed (in km/h) that York police clocked a car driving in a 60 km/h zone in Newmarket. The driver was charged with stunt driving and speeding, had his vehicle impounded for seven days and had his license suspended.

71 - the number of people charged by Peel police for disobeying traffic signs

5 - the number of people Peel police caught driving under suspension

10 - number of people Peel police charged with distracted driving

68 - the number of people Peel police caught violating other parts of the Highway Traffic Act
