You can learn a little more about electoral reform Tuesday night.
Fair Vote Canada will host a discussion on electoral reform at Newmarket Public Library at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 15. Specifically, the need for proportional representation - including a potential implementation timeline and the system's effect on MP accountability - will be addressed.
According to Fair Vote, at least 50 per cent of all ballots cast across Canada did not count toward electing a representative in the past several elections. Proportional representation means every vote would count equally, meaning voters won't have to cast a ballot strategically.
In 2011, the Conservatives were elected to a majority government with 39.6 per cent of votes, Fair Vote says.
The library is at 438 Park Ave., admission is free and the doors open at 7 p.m.
