The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville will receive $258,255 from the province to help cover expenses incurred during the 2013 ice storm.
“We are extremely pleased and want to thank the Ontario government for stepping up to help cover our winter storm costs. These funds will cover most of the emergency, recovery and repair costs incurred by the town,” Mayor Justin Altmann said in a media release.
The municipality’s total bill was $308,923.
The money is being paid to the town via the province’s Ice Storm Assistance Program.
Town staff and contractors worked around the clock in the immediate aftermath of the December storm to clear municipal roads and sidewalks of ice and debris.
Staff continued to remove downed trees, branches and repair damage from the storm on town property well into the spring and summer months, according to the release.
