On July 1st, communities coast to coast proudly came together to pay tribute to Canada and its major milestone. While Canada turned 148, families and friends right here in Vaughan united at the Mackenzie Glen District Park for a free and unforgettable experience. The event began with a beautiful rendition of the Canadian anthem which everyone proudly stood for. Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua and Members of Council later welcomed the crowd and introduced the scheduled entertainment. Throughout the park, kids, teens and parents roamed freely to experience the various activities on-site. There was something for everyone including face painting, bouncy castles, rock climbing and more. The team from the York Regional Police department and Vaughan Fire Rescue also joined the celebration, bringing their trucks and cars along for people to take photos with. Foodies were in luck too since various food trucks were on hand serving Canadian favourites, including cheesy and delicious poutine. And if that is not enough, the live concerts scheduled throughout the day had great special Canadians. The celebration could be heard throughout the neighbourhood especially as Canadian band The Turks, and Canadian pop star Lights hit the stage. Once these great performers began their acts, a massive crowd surrounded the stage singing along to hits, like “Up We Go” from Lights. At the end of it all, families left smiling. We hope you enjoyed the festivities!
