In a recent announcement of the 2015 ENERGY STARĀ® Market Transformation Awards winners, Natural Resources Canada recognized PowerStream as one of 13 Canadian companies that demonstrated outstanding leadership in promoting energy efficiency.
PowerStream, an advocate of ENERGY STAR as well as a utility with a vision statement that includes being "a socially responsible company, committed to the environment and sustainable growth," was named by Natural Resources Canada as the recipient of the 'Utility of the Year-Regional' award.
The award was presented to PowerStream based on several initiatives undertaken in 2014 including:
- Expanding its successful "Smart Kids" campaign through direct mail, newspaper and radio advertisements and social media, which increased participation in PowerStream's residential conservation program and resulted in almost 10,000 furnaces and central air conditioning systems being replaced with ENERGY STAR certified HVAC equipment.
- Partnering with GE Appliances Canada to run a year-long contest to promote customer participation in the company's residential demand program, peaksaver PLUS, by offering early-bird prizes and a grand prize of a GE appliance package worth $15,000, which included ENERGY STAR certified products where eligible.
