West Nile Virus has made its first appearance of 2015 in the GTA. Two mosquito pools in York Region and two more in Mississauga have tested positive for the virus. The ones in York Region came in Markham, near Warden and Highway 7, and the other in Newmarket near Davis Drive and Prospect street. In Mississauga, the batches were collected near Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Road East and the other batch was collected near Dixie Road and Dundas Street East. But health agencies say there have been no human cases so far in 2015. Officials say to keep safe, residents should wear light-coloured, long-sleeved clothing, pants and a hat to protect exposed skin from insect bites, use insect repellent and be sure to drain standing pools of water - including in pails, wheelbarrows and birdbaths.
