The provincial government is providing infrastructure renewal funds for a variety of hospitals in Ontario, including Mackenzie Health in Richmond Hill.

Through the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund, the province is investing $1,207,367 for infrastructure upgrades to the Richmond Hill-based community hospital.

The funding announced this week will help address key infrastructure needs at Mackenzie Health, such as:

In the 2015 Budget, the Liberal government committed to providing more than $11 billion in hospital capital grants over 10 years, including grants administered through the infrastructure renewal fund. This funding is part of the largest infrastructure investment in Ontario’s history - more than $130 billion over 10 years. The overall investment is helping connect regions, develop new economic opportunities and improve quality of life for Ontarians by supporting infrastructure projects in cities, towns, and rural and remote communities across the province, according to a press release from the government.

Modernizing infrastructure will support more than 110,000 jobs a year, on average, in construction and related industries.

“Our government’s investment in critical infrastructure upgrades for Southwest York Region’s local hospital ensures that Mackenzie Health, which serves a population of over half a million people, continues to provide patients with a world-class health experience through improved access to quality care,” said Richmond Hill MPP Reza Moridi.

“Thanks to the Ontario government’s infrastructure funding, Mackenzie Health will be able to ensure that our patient care environment and supporting infrastructure are in keeping with our goal to create an exceptional patient and family care experience,” said Altaf Stationwala, President and CEO of Mackenzie Health.
