Fire officials will be back on the scene today investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed two homes in Thornhill last night.

At least two dozen firefighters were called out to the dinner-hour blaze on Thornridge Drive west of Yonge Street and south of Centre Street.

Flames and smoke could be seen for several kilometres.

No one was injured in the fire, which began at a house under construction just before 6:30 p.m. and then spread to a neighbouring home.

It knocked out power to about seven dozen homes in the area.

York Regional Police sent out a series of tweets during the fire.

“Police and fire on the way for the house on fire.. 911 lines are jamming. We do have the call,” one said.

“Fire and police on scene, smoke and flames visible, Thornridge Dr closed to traffic,” another said.

“Neighboring residences being evacuated, fire not yet under control,” a third tweet said.
