The York Region District School Board approved a $1.35-billion budget for the 2015-16 fiscal year.
The budget was given the thumbs up by trustees at Tuesday night’s board meeting.
This year’s budget is a 1.4-per-cent increase over last year’s and nearly 95 per cent of the funding is allocated to classroom instruction and school operation expenses, with the remaining 5 per cent earmarked for governance, administration and transportation.
Budget revenues will come from grants for student needs from the province, including property tax transfers from local municipalities and other sources, including tuition fees for international students, rental revenues and interest.
This year’s budget will support more than 122,000 students in the 174 elementary and 32 secondary schools throughout the region, as well as 15,000 staff members.
