Stouffville 124th best place to live in Canada: magazine

Check marks for high income, low crime rate, good weather

Whitchurch-Stouffville is the 124th best place to live in Canada, according to MoneySense magazine.

It’s the York Region municipality’s first time being ranked in the annual listings, which were released Monday.

There are 209 communities on the list.

Boucherville, Que., near Montreal was No. 1, followed by Ottawa and Burlington, Ont.

Newmarket was tops in York Region, at 23rd, followed by neighbouring Aurora in 30th. Richmond Hill was 36th, Vaughan 38th and Markham 71st.

Georgina was 136th.

New Glascow, N.S. took last place.

Whitchurch-Stouffville received check marks for high income, low crime rate, good weather and having a strong arts and sports community.

Other categories studied included access to health care, affordable housing, easy to walk/bike/take transit, healthy population and low taxes.

Staffers at the magazine spend “months sifting through reports from Environics Analytics, Statistics Canada and other data providers,” MoneySense’s reports and rankings editor Mark Brown said on its website.
