Rosedale Community Players in Thornhill have a unique way to connect people through the arts, give back to the community and bring music to a local school.

The live theatre group presents their musical theatre performance of An Heir of Mystery June 9 and 10 at the Vaughan City Playhouse Theatre, 1000 New Westminster Dr. in Thornhill. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. both evenings.

The Rosedale Community Players are a group of parents, educators and community members connected to Rosedale Heights Public School, who enjoy being part of a live musical theatre performance.

Next week’s production is musical comedy with a touch of mystery and mayhem thrown in, featuring a cast of funny characters who all come together for the reading of a will.

“Being a part of the Rosedale Community Players has been a wonderful social outlet. It has provided us with an opportunity to explore our creative side surrounded by terrific group of friends,” said Lisa Solmon with husband Jordan, who have two sons attending Rosedale Heights.

The production helps raise funds for the school's music and arts programs. Funds raised through past performances have helped buy new instruments, refurbish older ones, purchase sheet music, mouthpieces and other supplies needed for the Rosedale Heights students.

“I participate in the play each year to set an example for my children and challenge myself. I enjoy theatre and it is a wonderful way to give back to the Rosedale community,” said Kelly Rein, teacher at Rosedale Heights and mother of two daughters.

This is the fourth year that the group has been performing live. Previous performances include Rosedale Remembers, Everything's Coming Up Rosedale and Rosedale Community Players: Ever After.

The producer of the show is Adine Shane, and the director is Robbie Frankel; both have one son at the school. Ilana Weisberg, with three children at the school, helps write the shows.

“I'm excited to raise money for Rosedale Heights P.S. music department. I also love being on the big stage with some of the best friends a girl could ask for,” commented Jill Berman, who has a son in Rosedale Heights and a daughter at nearby Westmount Collegiate.
