Election reform bill announced

NRU
June 10, 2015

Premier Kathleen Wynne announced June 4 the introduction of a provincial election reform bill, the Electoral Boundaries Act, 2015. If passed, the act would increase the number of provincial ridings in southern Ontario from 96 to 111 for the election scheduled in 2018.

This would align with the new federal boundaries and would better reflect population shifts and increases.

Most of the new ridings would be in areas that have had substantial population growth such as the regions of Durham, Peel, and York, and the cities of Ottawa and Toronto.
