Firefighters were able to rescue some family pets and quickly get a house fire under control in Thornhill early this afternoon.

Fire trucks were called to a blaze at 149 Joanna Cres., near Clark Avenue West and Yonge Street, just before 1 p.m.

They battled the inferno from all sides, shooting water at it from hoses from the back, front and even from an aerial tower.

Nobody was home when firefighters arrived, said Vaughan Fire Chief Larry Bentley.

“The fire is under control at this time, though there is extensive damage to the home,” Bentley said an hour after fire trucks arrived on the scene.

“We have sent in an investigator,” Bentley said, adding the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
