Have a blast within municipal bylaws.

Newmarket council could approve an update to its fireworks bylaw May 11. The bylaw regulates the sale and discharge of fireworks within the municipality. Under the update, residents will be allowed to discharge fireworks on Victoria and Canada days, as well as the day before and after each of those holidays. Fireworks will only be permitted for discharge between dusk and 11 p.m., and there must be an 18-metre frontage on participating residential properties.

Anyone who wants to set off fireworks during other special occasions throughout the year must obtain a permit through Central York Fire Services.

Discharge will be prohibited on town property and anyone under 18 years old will be barred from setting off fireworks - unless they are under the supervision of someone 18 or older.

Temporary firework sale sites, like mobile trailers, will also be required to obtain a permit from the municipality.
