May 2015
Everyone powered down for the City of Vaughan’s Earth Hour Celebration on March 28th. Mayor Bevilacqua, Members of Council and City Staff made sure the day was full of several exciting activities at Vaughan City Hall. Some of the activities included a Professional Energy Conservation Exhibit, Lantern-making and a Secondary School Environmental Jeopardy Game around 6:30PM. Shortly afterwards, everyone gathered round for the Opening Ceremonies. Folks were welcome to participate in the Outdoor Lantern Walk Cycling Night Ride (rain or shine) which was a lot of fun for all those involved. There was also some great live entertainment and complimentary refreshments available for everyone to enjoy throughout the evening. A few lucky recipients/winners were provided with the Green Hero Awards and Prizes towards the end of the evening. Everyone was asked to bring an environmentally friendly light and a cup for drinks to use. Families across the city were happy to participate in this year’s Earth Hour festivities and educate their children on conserving energy. PowerStream reported the City’s power usage was down by 5%.
