A crew of York University students vying for a $1-million film deal just keeps on rolling.

The team, which includes Maple resident Shane Preston, cracked into the top 30 and hopes to land a spot in the top 15 in the CineCoup Film Accelerator Canada-wide competition.

The contest, which began in March, pits teams against each other through a series of missions over a 12-week period.

Teams that generate the most audience feedback and participation through each round advance to the next stage.
The York U team’s entry is a horror flick titled Fantome.

It’s about a young woman named Arianne who lives in a gated community in a fictional town, based on Quebec ghost town of Val Jalbert.

Her neighbours are superstitious and believe in the supernatural, but Arianne is highly skeptical. That is, until strange things start happening to her.

Voting for the top 15 closes Friday, May 8.

That number will be whittled down to five finalists, four of which will have their films optioned for development while the winner will receive up to $1 million in financing and have their movie screened in Cineplex theatres.
