Vaughan’s Andrew Wiggins has been named the NBA’s rookie of the year.

The 20-year-old guard-forward, who was the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft last year by Cleveland, fulfilled his top selection with an outstanding season with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Traded to the T-Wolves before the season for top power forward Kevin Love, Wiggins led all rookies with 16.9 points per game while playing all 82 games.

"It's a tough league. It's hard to play every game," Wiggins said at season's end. "I feel proud of that.”

Wiggins, a 6-foot-8, 200-pounder, also averaged 4.6 rebounds a game while playing an impressive 39 minutes a night on a moribund Minnesota team that finished an NBA worst 16-66.

The T-Wolves suffered a string of injuries throughout the second half of the season, often playing five or six players short which allowed plenty of court time for Wiggins to shine and show his skills.

A young team that boasted fellow rookie guard Zach LaVine and second year fellow Canadian Anthony Bennett, who was traded to Minnesota with Wiggins, the T-Wolves will draft high again this year. Wiggins will be key to their future growth.
