Residents can help with Aurora street sweeping program

Spring cleaning will begin on Aurora streets and sidewalks next week.

Residents are being asked to do their part as town staff clear winter sand and debris from municipally owned streets and sidewalks by not parking on the street during daytime hours on weekdays and not parking over the curb or sidewalk. Also, residents are being asked to place garbage, recycling or yard waste on the driveway away from the curb and to watch children closely when the sweepers are on the road.

The town’s infrastructure and environmental services department complete the program as early as the weather will allow for general aesthetic, economic and environmental purposes.

If not completed as early as possible, the spring rains wash the sand into the catch basins and water courses, which could result in the need to remove it at an increased cost.

The spring street sweeping program takes two to three weeks to complete although cold or wet weather, parked vehicles or excessive amounts of winter sand and debris can cause delays.
