Drivers could be in for a bumpy ride on Aurora’s residential streets come the fall.
Town of Aurora staff are currently looking at the top five residential streets that seem to attract drivers with a heavy foot as part of a study that will relate to a speed cushion pilot project.
Pending final approval from council, the project will see speed cushions installed on five streets to start, potentially Conover Avenue, Laurentide Avenue, Mavrinac Boulevard, Kennedy Street West and Stone Road, to prevent drivers from travelling above the posted speed limit and increase safety for residents and pedestrians.
The installation of the speed signs and cushions will start after an education campaign in August.
Councillor John Abel, who originally brought the idea forward last winter, wanted to get started as soon as possible but infrastructure director Ilmar Simanovskis pointed out the investigation and public consultation process are key to the rollout of the pilot project.
