GO Transit's Stouffville line will see more frequent trains under a major announcement by the province last week relating to GO service throughout the GTA.
The government says it is working with its agency, Metrolinx, to bring GO Regional Express Rail (RER) service to the GO rail network as part of a 10-year initiative.
RER service on the Stouffville line represents:
“People using the Stouffville GO corridor will benefit from more train trips and future two-way, all-day service," provincial Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca said in a media release. "This is further proof of our government’s commitment to making the daily commute and quality of life better for Ontario families.”
“I’m proud to be part of a government that’s making the single largest infrastructure investment in our province's history. The expansion of GO Regional Express Rail to our community will mean less congestion and more transit options, which will improve the economy,” said Oak Ridges-Markham MPP Dr. Helena Jaczek.
The project supports the Government of Ontario’s plan to make nearly $29 billion available over the next 10 years for investments in priority infrastructure projects across the province, including up to $15 billion available for investment in transit in the GTHA and nearly $14 billion available for investment in roads, bridges, transit and other critical infrastructure in the rest of the province.
