PowerStream was presented with the 'Environmental Leadership' Award at the 2015 Vaughan Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Awards held Thursday evening at the Paramount Conference and Event Centre.

The energy company's environmental stewardship was recognized by the Chamber based on several initiatives undertaken by the utility including employee carpool and vanpool programs; use of hybrid and electric vehicles (EV); installation of EV charging stations at the company's head office; tracking of vehicle fuel consumption and idling; use of solar panels and a wind turbine to generate electricity as well as the implementation of innovative employee recycling programs for electronic waste, batteries, light bulbs, aluminum coffee cartridges and milk bags.

PowerStream was also acknowledged for operating its business out of two LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold certified buildings and for delivering conservation programs to residential and business customers that have helped to save a total 50 million kilowatt-hours of electricity, enough to power 4,500 Vaughan homes for a year.

The Business Achievement Awards are presented each year by the Vaughan Chamber of Commerce to organizations/individuals that have demonstrated superior business acumen, social awareness and an economic contribution to the community of Vaughan.
