A veteran American actor, who portrayed one of the silver screen’s nastiest villains, will walk down the red carpet at this year’s Vaughan Film Festival.

Michael Madsen, best known as the ear-slicing psychopath Mr. Blonde in Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, will be honoured with an Independent Leadership Award during the festival’s annual awards show at Paramount Event Venue May 28.

“It’s exciting for us to have Madsen attend this year’s VFF (Vaughan Film Festival),” festival co-founder Mark Pagliaroli said. “Not only because he’s a Hollywood icon, but also because he’s been an advocate for the independent film circuit.”

The gravelly voiced actor has been a strong backer of indie films during his career, which spans more than 30 years and 150 movies including Kill Bill, Donnie Brasco, Free Willy, Thelma & Louise and The Doors.

Madsen recently reunited with Tarantino for the renowned director’s latest project, The Hateful Eight, which also stars Samuel L. Jackson and Kurt Russell.

The film is set to hit theatres in November.

The Vaughan Film Festival showcases short films from around the world. It runs from May 25 to May 28.
