City hall has launched a new pet project - an art exhibit featuring dogs and cats who wind up in Vaughan’s shelter.

Petscapes: Tails of the Lost + Found, is on display in the Atrium Gallery at city hall, 2141 Major Mackenzie Dr.

The exhibition boasts 17 photographic portraits of dogs and cats who found a safe haven at the Vaughan Animal Services shelter.

The portraits were snapped at the shelter by award-winning photographer Sandra Scarpelli.

Each one is accompanied by a short story that profiles the experiences of the dogs and cats in a bid to promote responsible pet ownership.

Petscapes is the third exhibition in the Planet Earth Series, dedicated to championing awareness of global conservation, environmental sustainability and animal stewardship.

City hall is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. The show runs until Apr. 28.
