The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville received a silver designation for 2015 from Smart Commute Central York Tuesday in recognition of its efforts to reduce the use of single-occupant vehicles for employees travelling to and from work.
There are Smart Commute parking spaces for town staff at the municipal building as well as bike racks.
Staff is also encouraged to carpool when travelling to and from various town facilities for meetings.
“We are doing our part to reduce our ecological footprint by carpooling, cycling, taking transit and walking to work whenever possible,” said Mayor Justin Altmann in a media release.
Smart Commute Central York, a Metrolinx program, is a membership-based, not-for-profit program that works with organizations in northern York Region to promote more sustainable modes of commuting.
