Police have taken over a residential area as explosive materials are being removed from a house in Vaughan.

On Monday afternoon, police received a call from concerned citizen who had discovered “aged explosives” while cleaning a house on Willis Rd., near Riverside Dr.

The explosives had apparently been left there decades ago by a resident who had worked in the mining industry, say police.

Police don’t believe there is anything suspicious about the incident, but the Explosives Detection Unit was deployed to deal with the explosives and ensure their safe disposal.

As a precaution, several houses nearby have been evacuated as police continue to work, and neighbourhood residents are asked to follow the directions of officers who will be at perimeter points.
