Cellphone, newsletter charges in Stouffville council expense report

Before leaving office, former Ward 4 councillor Susanne Hilton spent $5,703 on communications/newsletters and another $880 in attending community functions and general public relations, according to the statement of remuneration and expenses for the mayor and councillors in 2014.
Phil Bannon, who spent 11 years as the Ward 2 councillor before losing to Justin Altmann in the mayoral race last October, spent $4,232 on communications/newsletters and general public relations and an additional $830 on attending community events and general public relations.
Councillor Rob Hargrave had $738 in cellphone expenses for the entire year, while the other incumbent - Ken Ferdinands, had no cellphone charges for 2014, according to the report.
Ferdinands, who is the councillor for Ward 2, however, submitted $1,135 for attending community events and general public relations.
Hargrave, Ward 6’s councillor, spent $2,025 on attending community events and general public relations in 2014.
Neither Hilton nor former Ward 5 councillor and mayoral candidate Richard Bartley had any cellphone usage expenses for 2014, according to the report.
Current Ward 5 Councillor Iain Lovatt incurred no expenses in his first month in office last year, while the other newcomers - Altmann, Maurice Smith, Hugo Kroon and Rick Upton - each spent $45 on attending community functions/general PR, according to the report.
