Zoning by-law update in the GTA

NRU
March 18, 2015

Under Ontario law, municipalities undertaking a new official plan or amending an existing official plan must bring the documents into conformity with the 2006 Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe. After a comprehensive amendment to an official plan, the Planning Act gives municipalities three years to update their zoning by-laws to ensure conformity with revised official plans.

Listed below are GTA municipalities and the status of their zoning by-laws relative to the jurisdiction’s official plan and the province’s growth plan. For a table of each municipality’s growth plan conformity status, see the November 26, 2014 edition of NRU.
