Don’t expect to use the Doane Road Interchange on Hwy. 404 any time soon.

While you can see the foundation in place for ramps, the region doesn’t expect to start construction on Doane until 2024.

York Region’s decision last year to remove the road from its 10-year capital roads budget was not a popular decision for East Gwillimbury council.

When the region moves projects, it’s tough to plan for growth, Councillor Marlene Johnston said. “The growth goes ahead without the benefit of the amenity.”

York Region manager of engineering Paul Acquaah said the region has many difficult decisions to make with a set budget and added he can understand it is a tough pill for people to swallow.

“It’s frustrating,” Councillor James Young said and joked his daughter might be able to take the interchange by the time she graduates university.

There are a number of OMB approved subdivision drafts in the Queensville and northeast Holland Landing area, which were to be accommodated by the reconstruction of Doane and the completion of the Hwy. 404 interchange at Doane.
