A new highway interchange could help alleviate traffic congestion in Aurora.
Councillor Michael Thompson asked fellow councillors to support his proposal to meet with staff from York Region to see if the construction of an interchange at St. John’s Sideroad and Hwy. 404 could be fast-tracked.
The region has the construction of the interchange scheduled for 2031, but residential development in the area of St. John’s and Leslie Street is expected to add another 9,000 residents, which will increase traffic volumes.
Council supported approaching the region to ask for a 2021 construction date.
