The city could soon be searching for a new deputy city manager.

Steve Kanellakos, or Steve K as he’s known around Ottawa City Hall, has tendered his resignation, effective April 30.

Kanellakos is set to become the top bureaucrat for the City of Vaughan, north of Toronto, on May 4.

City manager Kent Kirkpatrick, who notified Mayor Jim Watson and councillors by memo Tuesday afternoon, said he will appoint an interim deputy city manager in the coming weeks.

Kanellakos has served on the city’s executive team since the summer of 2000, and has overseen OC Transpo, public works, social services, parks and recreation, and emergency and protective services.
