Do you sit stewing alone in your car on the southern stretch of Hwy. 404 as vehicles carrying two or more breeze by you in the high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane?

Are you willing to pay to join the faster moving crowd?

Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca, MPP for Vaughan, will announce this morning plans for high occupancy toll (HOT) lanes, which are expected to include Hwy. 404.

The HOV lanes for vehicles carrying at least two people were initially created to encourage carpooling.

But in his 2013 budget, former premier Dalton McGuinty announced HOT lanes on existing HOV lanes would be a way of raising money for infrastructure.

Both the Conservatives and New Democrats have criticized the move.

“The Lexus lanes are not something I think is the right way to go,” NDP leader Andrea Horwath has said.
