Stretch King-Vaughan Road expected to re-open on Wednesday

A stretch of King-Vaughan Road, shuttered in early August due to safety concerns, is expected to re-open Wednesday, Dec. 23.

The stretch of road between Hwy. 27 and Kipling Avenue was closed Aug. 6 after a routine inspection revealed the guide rail on the bridge’s south side had deteriorated and posed a risk to the 650 vehicles that traverse it daily.

The City of Vaughan spent about $525,000 to install a temporary pre-manufactured bridge on top of the existing single-lane bridge structure spanning the Humber River, deemed unsafe due to issues with its guide rail system.

The original concrete bridge, built in 1920, is slated to be replaced with a permanent structure in 2019.
