A new condo tower planned for Markham is set to be among the tallest buildings in York Region, with its proponents noting it will offer a view of the CN Tower in downtown Toronto.
To be known as Riverside, the project by the Times Group will consist of two buildings - one of them 28 storeys tall.
The project is on Hwy. 7 near Village Parkway/Birchmount Road, a short distance west of the Whole Foods Market plaza.
The only taller building in Markham would be the World on Yonge’s Tower 3 in Thornhill at 31 storeys built by Liberty Developments.
However, Expo City in Vaughan dwarfs both, checking in at 37 storeys.
Among Riverside’s amenities will be an outdoor swimming pool perched on a 10th floor rooftop.
“The expansive pool will feature a spacious sun deck and landscaped terrace with BBQs, an indoor lounge with a bar and TV screens and guest suites. Inside, residents will find a well-equipped fitness centre, ping pong, billiards and card rooms, a library/Wi-Fi lounge, and a spectacular party room complete with dining area and bar, servery, and access to a quiet outdoor patio facing the Rouge River,” the company says in its promotional material.
Proximity to a landscaped parkland, bike trails, the Rouge River, Main Street Unionville, Unionville GO station and bus rapid transit are also touted.
The sustainable buildings - the other building will be 8 storeys in height and the plan suggests it will be the building closer to Hwy. 7 - promise 21 charging stations for electric cars.
Promoters note the new York University Markham campus is projected to complete about the same time as Riverside in 2019 and will be a 15-minute walk.
