On October 2nd almost 850 people packed The Terrace Banquet Hall for the 6th annual Hospice Vaughan Giving Thanks Gala. The signature fundraiser for Hospice Vaughan is positioned around the Thanksgiving holiday in part because so many families are gathering at this time of year to give thanks for their many blessings and Hospice wants to share that sentiment. The gala evening gives Hospice Vaughan a chance to thank their many supporters and for their supporters and sponsors to thank Hospice.

This year’s event was presented by St. Elizabeth Health Care. With close to 850 people coming out to show their support for this much needed community service, a record was set with over $300,000.00 raised to help continue the tremendous work & vision of Hospice Vaughan and its efforts to bring a 10-bed residential facility to our community. This record amount of money raised was made possible in part of course by all of the sponsors, corporate tables, and guests who came out to support, but could not have been possible without the continuation of the Founders Club, an initiative that was introduced at last year’s event and was once again met with overwhelming support.

The evening had many highlight, namely the honouring of two long-time Hospice Vaughan Supporters, Father Claudio Moser & Sonia Facchini, a cheque for $10,000 was presented by Mayor Bevilacqua (Hospice Vaughan Steering Committee Chair) from the Mayors Gala Fund and biggest of all, was the announcement by St. Elizabeth Health Care for a commitment of $300,000 .00

Transportation Minister, Steven Del Duca along with Mayor Bevilacqua and many members of council were all in attendance at the event. During their speeches, both Minister Del Duca & Mayor Bevilacqua showed their support at the idea of having a Residential Facility here in Vaughan!
