York Regional Police are investigating after possibly anti-Semitic graffiti surfaced on a park sign in Thornhill this weekend.

It was discovered on Saturday in the area of Dufferin Street and Highway 407, which has a significant Jewish population.

A photo posted to facebook shows the word “Jews” spray-painted across the sign.

It has since been covered up until the sign can be replaced.

The City of Vaughan issued a release condemning the act.

“This disturbing act of vandalism is completely unacceptable and goes against the core values upon which our community has been built,” mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua said. “We remain committed to promoting tolerance and respect for everyone.

“Diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and we will continue to take an active and public role in combating racism and discrimination which is part of our ultimate goal to maintain a safe and inclusive city.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
