York Regional Police are investigating a possible hate crime after someone spray-painted the word "Jews" on a Vaughan park sign.

A resident who lives near Concord/Thornhill Regional Park reported the graffiti Saturday afternoon, saying he had not seen it the day before, Insp. Duncan MacIntyre said Sunday.

City staff have since covered over the paint as police continue with their investigation.

When asked whether the incident was being investigated as a hate crime or an act of vandalism, MacIntyre said officers with the criminal investigations branch are "looking at all avenues."

No arrests had been made as of 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
