Bramble Crescent could open up as early as 2017.

Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville staff is asking council for direction on the 415-metre roadway that runs south of Millard Street to Edward Street.

Opening Bramble Crescent “has been identified as a means of improving the efficiency of local traffic movement and providing additional direct access to Stouffville’s downtown businesses,” according to the report that goes to council Tuesday night.

Bramble Crescent connects Millard Street to Edward Street, which goes to Main Street, passing Schell Lumber and a new GO train parking lot.

The former high school, now a vacant lot, is at the southeast corner of Bramble Crescent. On the west side is the Connell-Franklin Track.

The range of options for the road opening goes from maintaining an unimproved condition, meaning no drainage upgrade, sidewalks or lighting. The cost is $50,000, according to the report.

Another option is partial urbanization, which would include a sidewalk, catch basin and storm sewer installation, streetlights and other improvements. That would come in at a cost of $500,000.

The final option is full urbanization, which would consist of all items in the partial urbanization option, along with road reconstruction and curb installation on both sides of the street, among other upgrades. That price tag is $820,000.

The staff report does not provide a preferred option.

The council meeting begins at 7 p.m. in town hall. It is open to the public.
